Year Of Priests
Pope Benedict XVI has declared a Year of Priests from June 19th, 2009 (which is the feast of the Sacred Heart) through June 19th, 2010, in an effort to encourage spiritual perfection in priests.
During this jubilee year, the Pope will also proclaim St. John Vienney to be the patron saint of all the world's priest, not just parish priests as he is now. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the 19th century saint who represents a "true example of a priest at the service of the flock of Christ."
In solidarity and love for our Holy Father, and all priests in the world, we are asking everyone to please sign up for a day of prayer and fasting for the "spiritual perfection" of all priests. We encourage every parish in the United States to start their own calendar to sign up for prayers and fasting for the priests.
Suggestions for parishes to observe the Year of Priests
